Census Information. |
In 2010, the US Census will define who we are as a nation and a state. Taken every 10 years since 1790, the census affects political representation and directs the allocation of billions of dollars in federal and state funding. Making sure that everyone in the Village of Sussex is counted in the 2010 Census is very important because millions of dollars in state and local funding is based on population information.
Census questionnaires will be mailed or hand delivered to every household in the United States in March 2010. The 2010 Census is a short form and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. All households should complete and mail back their questionnaires upon receipt.
By law, all US residents must be counted – both citizens and non citizens. By law, the Census Bureau cannot share an individual’s responses with anyone, including other federal agencies and law enforcement entities.
So stand up Sussex and be counted, it’s to your benefit.

2010 CENSUS AWARENESS ... Unfortunately, there have already been reports of people posing as census officials in hopes of collecting money or Social Security numbers from unsuspecting people. Below is a list of a couple of things to keep in mind if you are contacted by a census official.
- Right now, census workers are only knocking on doors to verify address information.
- Census workers will always have identification on them, including a badge. They will also be carrying a handheld device and a notice of confidentiality. If one of them knocks on your door, you should always ask to see these items before answering any of their questions. And as always, never invite anyone into your home.
- Please know that census workers will never ask for your Social Security number, checking account numbers or credit card information.
- A census worker will never ask for money.
- You may be contacted by telephone, mail or in person, but never via email.
If you think you were contacted by someone who was posing as a census official, you should contact your local police department. |
